Past Meetings
Thanks to all that attended our meetings in April and November 2010
In April 2010 we had a great talk by
Helaina Checketts on Craniosacral Therapy and she also gave a demonstration on Facial Reflexology which we all were so fascinated with!
November 2010 Janice Beckwith came and gave a talk on Homeopathy - goodness me, I didnt realise how much it could do, thanks Janice. Also Louise Moore from www.lifestreamsclinic.com came and gave us an insight into Hynotherapy, Counselling/NLP.
Thanks to all that attended on Satuday 14th November 2009
What a great turnout ! It was really lovely to see students who started at the beginning (jan 2005!) through to recent graduates (sorry forgot to congratulate you all in public..grrrrrr....), present students and those coming in January.
First of all a big thank you to Linda McCroft - what a great talk and demonstration on the power of EFT - I will certainly want to do a workshop on it myself- Linda - I forgot to ask you (?!) when is your next workshop on this? Could you do one for us at the school? This is just too good and I think we could all benefit from knowing how to do it, fantastic. Here are Linda's websites:as you heard she has a fantastic new course on re using EFT for losing weight -EASILY, but she also explained how EFT can help with pain and any amount of physical and motinoal problems (Her new website just launched: www.tapyourselfslim.co.uk. Her other website is: www.alternativeapproach.co.uk
As you know, Emma unfortuntately couldnt make it as she got a bug (wish you better Emma), but very kindly and generously sent me her talk notes on Dementia - which I can see must have taken her hours to prepare - this is attached, as promised for your inforamtion. I did the best I could Emma! We discovered during the presentation I did on Emma's behalf that about 25% of the audience had had problems with family/friends with Dementia and as John said, it is a growing problem. There is already a lot of inforamtion on the school forum re dementia: http://jackiehamilton.activeboard.com/index.spark?aBID=130021&p=3&topicID=25771289 - this link will take you right there - 3 documents to download re how therapies can help - sent to me by Emma previously, and John Rhind's information on it as well including how nutrition can help. All there for the taking - you need to 'join the forum' to download the documents - its free, just put your name and give yourself a password on top right hand side of Forum.
(Our School Forum also has lots of information regarding therapeutic guidelines - eg aromatherapy to help with various distressing conditions, including dementia, massage and cancer, all sorts. I also regularly update it with any CPD courses I hear about - from Angela Sellens Drake, local CTHA meeting information and also Sue Han****s regular therapy meetings and contact details. Anything that I hear about that would be of interest to ex and present students I put on there - John Rhinds's NNORIT group information is there and how to join them, Norfolk Group of Reflexologists meetings are on there, so that you can be as fully informed as possible.)
Successful ex students:
I had the pleasure of introducing Gwen Sallows - and her journey from being in a bad physical state through to her training in therapies and how she left full time employment and has recently been made new business woman of the year in her area in Norfolk - she gave us some insight into how she got to be a successful business - congratulations to Gwen!!.Also I introduced Tracey Lister - who only graduated last January with her first therapy and now has a burgeoning and successful business with over 140 clients!!! Tracey comes from a marketing background and so appreciates how vital it is to put yourself forward - she is going to do a marketing workshop for us!! she has loads of great ideas to pass on, so watch out for that one......
Margaret Ayres, Therapy Co-ordinator in a hospice in Kings Lynn, and ex student of mine (reflex and IHM) - told us how she progressed from student, through volunteer to paid employee of the hospice - and how positive the feedback is from those that receive treatments - patients, carers, staff . Fantastic Margaret! A real inspiration.
I hope that you left motivated and inspired too -
Our next meeting will be in approximately 6 months time and I will let you know the date soon and look forward to catching up with you again then
Love and best wishes
Jackie xx
ps info on the M technique that Margaret told us about - This is a massage/touch based therapy with a few simple movements that anyone can do. it is especially useful for those suffering incurable or painful conditons - suitable for anyone to learn - massage therapists, reflexologists, carers etc. To be held 2nd December from 2-5pm and it costs £15. Please contact Jane Sheehan 01603 255716 or Maria Voors 255714. This is held at Pricilla Bacon Lodge.
Thanks to all who came to support last School Meeting Thursday evening 23rd April. We had a good turnout and we enjoyed a presentation by Ann Walker who is a practicing midwife and also a trained herbalist and was very generous with her advice and guidance on the use of herbal remedies. Ann spoke mainly on the care of clients who are concerned with fertility, pregnancy and then after care - she had so much to tell us and we would like her to come back as she could hardly touch on menopause - which was a topic a lot of us were interested in! She also has some information on how herbs can help those with cancer which we would like to know about.
Ann was so enthusiastic and loves to share her knowledge. Her web site is www.herbalmother.co.uk
Emma Wright was due to give a talk on Dementia, but unfortuately her Dad passed away the Thursday before the bank holidays so it wasnt a good time for her - our thoughts and prayers are with you Emma.
Anne Brewster, an ex student at the school, stepped in and gave a really great demonstration on Indian Face Massage on Kathleen Redcliffe. Thanks Anne! She is in the process of doing the teaching programme with a school in London and then she can offer to teach this wonderful natural face lifting treatment - you can contact her on 01362 691996 if you want to know more. The face lift lasts for two weeks! get behind me in the queue please!
See you on the 14th for our next one! Jackie x
